  10. local repeater to report a possible suicide attempt to police.  she
  11. and another motorist were witnesses to the january 10 incident on
  12. the merrimack bridge near boston.  police arrived in time to pull a
  13. 27 year old man from the railing of the bridge.  N1QEZ and N1QFA
  14. helped with communications.

  31. Amateur Radio may have saved a life when Diana Carlson, KC1SP, used
  32. a local repeater to report a possible suicide attempt to police.

  34. Carlson, of Hudson, New Hampshire, was on her way to work at GenRad
  35. in Concord, Massachusetts, the morning of January 10, when she and
  36. another motorist observed a man climbing the railing of the
  37. Merrimack Bridge into the city.  The man's auto was parked directly
  38. in front of Carlson.

  40. While the other motorist talked to the man, Carlson first tried a
  41. call on 146.52, which she knew was sometimes monitored by the
  42. Westford, Massachusetts police, then switched to the 147.120
  43. repeater in Billerica.  Larry Garneau, N1QEZ, who was mobile,
  44. responded and passed the message to his wife, Virginia Garneau,
  45. N1QFA, who telephoned police.

  47. An officer of the Tyngsboro Police arrived in time to pull the
  48. 27-year-old man from the railing of the bridge.

  50. Carlson's husband David is N1JYX, her son is KA1VWX, and her
  51. daughter is KA1VUA.
